Health and Social Care reported in 2014/15 that more than 1 in 5 children in Reception, and 1 in 3 children in Year 6 were measured as obese or overweight. Worrying, right?

Wet weather, frosty mornings and dark evenings make it more difficult to think up ways to keep moving – and unsurprisingly, children aren’t active enough in winter, according to new research released last week from the University of Cambridge*. Scientists tested 700 children and found that in the colder months, they spent only 47 minutes a day on their feet, compared to 65 minutes in the summer.
