A Healthy Active Summer – Key For All Families

During the long summer holidays children can often be guilty of slumping into a routine of staying up later than usual and getting a little lazy if they are not engaging in fun daily activities. Therefore, it’s key for parents to understand that although school holidays are important for children to have a little rest time, it’s equally vital to keep them healthy and active on a daily basis.

'You don’t have to be sporty to be active'

It’s one of the most common misconceptions of childhood that you must be sporty to be active. For those children less interested or less talented at sport, they can often be marginalised which can lead to dangerously high levels of childhood obesity – a crisis that we as a nation are currently in the midst of.

New Healthy Active Schools System delivers much-needed ‘School Activities and Fitness Levels Report’

PRESS RELEASE: January 31, 2017: today’s launch of the Healthy Active Schools System - an online activity measurement tool for schools – is meeting demand from parents and Government to track, measure and report on children’s activity levels at schools.

Why every child can keep active regardless of deprivation

Startling statistics have revealed that a shocking 40% of kids living in deprived areas have been measured as overweight or obese in the last year, compared to 27% in the most affluent areas. Every child deserves the opportunity to be healthy regardless of their family’s financial background and although there can be restraints due to deprivation, staying active doesn’t have to be costly, in fact, more often than not it’s completely free.

'HASS' to help schools in the fight against childhood obesity...

Fit For Sport, the UK’s leaders in educating and engaging children through physical activity, fully support the government’s recent childhood obesity strategy and we will continue to strive towards inspiring every child to engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each and every day. Click here to read our response to the Childhood Obesity Strategy.

One of the suggestions outlined in the recent strategy is that schools should be encouraging children to participate in a minimum of 30 minutes of activity during the school day. We at Fit For Sport have launched a ground-breaking online platform for schools to use in order to be able to monitor, track and improve children’s activity levels which will undoubtedly be key for schools to ensure that their pupils are participating in 30 minutes of activity a day.
